Baking Class

2023-2024 BAKERY CLASS

Love and hope Centre usually facilitates a bakery mastery program for young women to empower those in informal settlement to earn a decent living in order to reduce economical violence  in their house hold and in the community.Although the 2022-2023 class was a success, we decided to take a different approach; in 2024 the Love and hope team decided to target a different demographic. With the help of community health promoters and community facilitators we managed to put together an incredibly exceptional group of people who are more often than not neglected by  society. The deaf. We were able to get in touch with their parents and guardians to ask whether they would like to enroll their children in the program and without hesitation they consented wholeheartedly. In fact they were elated. In a few weeks’ time the class was assembled, and the lessons began.

Here at Love and hope Centre we strive to empower people in the society especially the marginalized communities. Thus, during their 9 months course we not only taught them about baking but also taught them a number of things such as:

 skills and character  Gender based violence prevention.

Entrepreneurship

 Fostering good workplace relations.

By the end of the training period, we had realized that this was one of the best classes we have ever had. This is because despite the challenges they face they are resilient hands-on workers with the zeal and zest to strive to ensure that they have accomplished what they had set out to do.

Demonstrating their critical thinking prowess, they seldom seek assistance; instead, they leverage their problem-solving skills.

Seeing how much they surpassed our expectations; we were obliged to help them further their careers by securing attachment positions for them. Some were placed in supermarket bakeries and others in hotels, this would help them get firsthand experience and put their skills to the test. The training initiated In October 2023 will conclude in June, coinciding with the completion of their attachment, after which they will return for their graduation.

In the world of baking, deaf students are not defined by their hearing loss but by their unwavering determination, resilience, and talent. Through perseverance and passion, they are breaking barriers, challenging stereotypes, and reshaping the narrative. As we celebrate their achievements and contributions, let us continue to champion inclusivity, diversity, and accessibility in the culinary arts, ensuring that every aspiring baker has the opportunity to rise and shine. “LIVING NO ONE BEHIND”
